Gorky Park Among Top 25 Most Popular Places for Facebook Users

Moscow's Gorky Park is one of the 25 most popular places checked into by Facebook users this year, the social networking site said.

The park was named on a diagram published by Facebook that shows the world's most popular spots for leaving online geographical tags, or "check-ins." No exact figures were provided and transport hubs were not included.

Earlier this year, City Hall announced plans to rejuvenate the park and turn it into one of the world's most well-known recreation areas, an accolade it appears to have earned ahead of schedule. The work, which is to be carried out by a British firm called LDA Design, is to be completed in 2017. (see related article)

Disneyland in Anaheim, California, was the most popular location in the U.S. among Facebook users.

The O2 Arena in London, Parque Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo, the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India, and Disneyland in Tokyo, also made the top 25.

Facebook users have been able to register check-ins at geographical hot spots since 2010. Prior to that, the function was available only to users of specialized geographical positioning applications like Foursquare and Gowalla.
