Enel Doubts Plant Project

Italian energy company Enel, a possible investor in Russia's first nuclear power plant co-owned by foreigners, the Baltic nuclear power plant, has doubts about the validity of its cost estimates, Interfax reported Thursday.

In an interview with Kommersant, Enel chief Fulvio Conti said the company wants to get a sufficient investment return and make sure that electricity will be in demand and will be sold to neighboring markets.

"We are interested in expanding our presence, but we want to have long-term confidence in the market, which we don't have at the moment. However, we are always ready to look for alternative solutions," Conti said.

The plant is expected to be based in Kaliningrad.
