Director Overseeing APEC Construction Killed

Far Eastern Federal UniversityKrivorotov's company is building a new home for the Far Eastern Federal University as part of the APEC project.

Investigators in Vladivostok on Wednesday discovered the body of the director of a company overseeing construction for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit scheduled to take place in the city in September.

"The body of a 53-year-old man was discovered with signs of a violent death caused by gunshot wounds to the body," the Primorye branch of the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

Primorye investigator Avrora Rimskaya told Itar-Tass that the victim was Sergei Krivorotov, director of Vladstroizakazchik, although she gave the victim's age as 43.

A criminal case has been opened on murder charges, Rimskaya said.

Vladstroizakazchik is constructing a number of buildings for the APEC summit, including a new home for the Far Eastern Federal University, landfills for household waste and water-supply facilities.

The infrastructure for the APEC forum, to be hosted on Russky Island, will be used after the conference by locals as part of President Vladimir Putin's plans to develop Russia's Far East.

A scandal enveloped the company in 2009, when Krivorotov included 28 million rubles ($850,000) worth of excess works in a contract for water-supply projects in Vladivostok and the surrounding area, Izvestia reported.

In May 2012, Krivorotov was banned for a year from Vladstroizakazchik's management after allowing a string of irregularities in the company's payroll.
