Police Nab 3rd Suspect in Pussy Riot Show

Police have detained athird suspected member of all-female punk band Pussy Riot, whose members have been targeted bylaw enforcement officials fortheir participation inan unsanctioned performance atChrist theSavior Cathedral last month.

Police called inIrina Lokteva forquestioning late last week as awitness inthe case, then during her interrogation told her that her status was being changed tothat ofa suspect, her lawyer Nikolai Polozov told Interfax.

Lokteva has been charged with hooliganism, thesame offense that suspected group members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova andMaria Alyokhina, who have been held indetainment since early this month, are accused of. Thecharge carries asentence ofup toseven years inprison.

Lokteva has been jailed until ahearing Friday atwhich ajudge will decide whether she too will be kept inpre-trial detention, Polozov said.

Members ofPussy Riot dressed inbrightly colored masks, dresses andstockings appeared unannounced atChrist theSavior Cathedral onFeb. 21 fora five-minute performance. Thedetainment ofTolokonnikova andAlyokhina has caused uproar withtheir supporters, who argue that thewomen should not be jailed before their trial since they have young children athome. Polozov said Lokteva does not have children.
