New Primorye Governor Takes Office

Vladimir Miklushevsky officially took office as the newly appointed governor of the Primorye region Friday after 34 of 38 deputies of the regional legislative assembly voted in favor of his candidacy, RIA-Novosti reported.

"In all areas of my work I have devoted myself to the causes I have served. I promise that I will give all my strength to the position that was entrusted to me by the leadership of the country. I will do everything to make life in Primorye better every day," Miklushevsky said.

Miklushevsky told journalists that his first priories would be fighting corruption, creating a new administrative team, and paying constant attention to the requests of citizens.

Miklushevsky, a former deputy education minister and the rector of Far East Federal University, has been serving as interim governor since the previous head of the Primorye region Sergei Darkin submitted his resignation Feb. 28.
