Kadyrov Rep Awarded Prize

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov's spokesman won a top journalism prize over the weekend at the seventh International Golden Quill awards, RIA-Novosti reported.

The awards are dedicated to Akhmat-Khadzhi Kadyrov, Chechnya's first president and father of the republic's current head, Ramzan Kadyrov.

Twenty-nine prizes were given out to journalists from various Russian regions, while Alvi Karimov, a former Interfax reporter who has worked as Kadyrov's spokesman since 2009, won the main prize for his television program "Dialogues" on state-owned Grozny TV.

Kadyrov himself picked up an award for "contribution to the development of the country's journalism" at the award ceremony, which took place in the Chechen capital Grozny.
