First Domodedovo Bombing Victim Files Lawsuit

A woman injured in last year's Domodedovo Airport bombing on Wednesday filed a $1.6 million lawsuit against the airport.

The lawsuit is the first case to be brought against the airport by a victim of the January 2011 suicide attack, Interfax reported.

"An injury claim against Domodedovo Airport has been filed at Moscow's Presnensky Court," Igor Trunov, an attorney for one of the victims, wrote on his website, the news agency said.

He added that his client, only identified in the report as Yelena K., was gravely wounded by the explosion and is still recovering from her injuries.

She believes that the airport's security services did not perform their duties properly on the day of the attack by allowing the bombers to smuggle an explosive device into the airport and detonate it.

Trunov stressed that his client is the only breadwinner in her family and that she takes care of her disabled daughter and mother.

The Moscow District Court is currently considering a criminal case against four suspects in the suicide bombing, in which 37 people died and 172 were injured.

Many victims have accused the airport's employees and administration of negligence.
