Boeing 737 Makes Emergency Landing in Irkutsk

A Boeing 737 jet made an emergency landing Tuesday at the Irkutsk airport after suffering problems with its landing gear.

No one was injured.

The pilots alerted emergency officials shortly after takeoff at 9:30 a.m. that the Boeing 737 had experienced a system failure with the retractable landing gear, Interfax reported.

The pilots dumped aviation fuel and made a successful emergency landing at 10:24 a.m., the report said.

The plane had been headed for Moscow. No information was immediately available about the number of passengers on board, and the airline was not identified. But information about the flight was similar to a flight operated by UTair.

In related news, Omsk authorities are conducting a preliminary investigation into an incident involving an Airbus A319 as it arrived on a flight from Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport on Sunday.

Preliminary data suggests the airliner collided with a flock of birds before landing safely at 7:50 a.m., the West Siberian Investigative Committee said in a statement.

None of the 88 passengers or five crew members were injured in the incident.

The statement did not identify the airline, but Aeroflot offers a flight from Sheremetyevo that arrives at 7:50 a.m.
