Medvedev 'Deserves' Nobel

Tunisian leaders believe that President Dmitry Medvedev deserves the Nobel Peace Prize more than U.S. President Barack Obama for his efforts to return peace to Libya, the Kremlin's top envoy to Africa said.

"Tunisia's leadership believes — and I was told about this at the highest official level — that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to find a settlement to the civil war," envoy Mikhail Margelov told reporters Saturday upon his arrival to Moscow from a tour of North Africa, Interfax reported. Moreover, he said, Tunisia believes that Medvedev "deserves the peace prize more than U.S. President Barack Obama, who got it in advance."

The Norwegian Nobel Committee raised eyebrows in 2009 when it noted that Obama had not succeeded in his efforts to eliminate nuclear weapons but nevertheless had decided to award him the peace prize to encourage him.
