Japan Mulls Gazprom LNG

Japan’s Agency for Natural Resources and Energy and Gazprom agreed to study options for exporting natural gas from Russia’s Pacific coast, including creating a front-end engineering design this year for an LNG plant near Vladivostok, the companies said Monday in an e-mailed statement.

Gazprom now supplies Japan from the Sakhalin Energy venture, the country’s only LNG facility, which is designed to meet about 7 percent of Japan’s fuel imports.

Gazprom and Japan will also consider a project to compress gas in Vladivostok and jointly produce and transport gas chemicals.
