Yevsyukov Sentence Upheld

The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld a lower court’s decision to hand a life sentence to Denis Yevsyukov, a former Moscow police officer who went on a shooting spree in April 2009, Interfax reported.

Yevsyukov, who was convicted of killing two people and attempting to kill 22 others, had requested a retrial, citing his good service record and a lack of evidence in the prosecutors’ case.

Lawyers for survivors and relatives of the deceased said they would now be able to sue Yevsyukov for compensation and might sue his wife and colleagues, whom they accuse of perjury.
