LUKoil Exec Threatened

LUKoil vice president Anatoly Barkov said Tuesday that he received a death threat over a February traffic accident that left two women dead, Interfax reported.

Barkov requested the police to ensure his safety after receiving an anonymous e-mail containing unspecified threats to his life and health, a law enforcement official told Interfax.

Barkov faced harsh public criticism after his Mercedes struck a car carrying two women on Moscow’s Leninsky Prospekt, and the police were accused of covering up what really happened on his behalf. Details of the accident, which killed both women and left Barkov uninjured, remain sketchy.
