Aleksanyan Case May End

A Moscow court said Thursday that it may close a criminal case against Vasily Aleksanyan, the former Yukos vice president diagnosed with cancer and AIDS, because the statute of limitations had expired.

Aleksanyan, released on bail, did not attend the session of the Simonovsky District Court on Thursday, and the court asked his lawyers to present a written statement from Aleksanyan expressing his formal consent for the case against him to be closed, Interfax reported.

The document is to be presented at the next hearing, on June 24.
