RZD Signs $2.6Bln in Deals

Russian Railways signed contracts to buy about $2.6 billion of locomotives from local ventures of Siemens and Alstom at a ceremony Thursday in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

Russian Railways, or RZD, will buy 221 freight locomotives from Siemens’ Sinara venture in the Ural Mountains district for 42 billion rubles ($1.4 billion), starting in 2011, chief executive Vladimir Yakunin said. RZD also plans to purchase 200 passenger locomotives from Transmashholding, developed with Alstom, starting in 2012, he said.
