Berlin Police Release 2 Russian Pilots

BERLIN — German police have released two Russian pilots suspected of plotting to hijack a plane at Berlin's Tegel airport.

Police said in a statement that the men were thoroughly interrogated, but it could not be confirmed that they had planned to hijack an Air Berlin jet they were booked on to fly to Moscow on Wednesday.

Police said the men were pilots for Russia's Orenburg Airlines and had been in Germany for flight training.

The men were taken into custody Wednesday after a woman reported overhearing a suspicious conversation between them. The plane was evacuated and all passengers were questioned by police. Most were able to get onto a later flight to Moscow.
