Raspadskaya Output Drops

Raspadskaya said Wednesday that third-quarter raw coal production fell 37 percent from the previous three months because of the temporary closure of its biggest mine following an accident.

Coal output fell to 1.11 million metric tons from 1.75 million tons in the second quarter, the company said. That followed a 42 percent drop in raw coal production during the second quarter.

The company’s main mine in Kemerovo was ripped apart by explosions on May 8 and 9 that left 90 people dead. Raspadskaya has submitted a plan to restart part of the 9 million-ton-a-year mine in the fourth quarter and is awaiting state approval.
