Gazprom Mulls Romania

Gazprom signed an agreement with Romania’s Transgaz to study the possible construction of the South Stream gas pipeline through the country as they select a route to Europe, chief executive Alexei Miller said Wednesday.

Gazprom is moving to the next stage of analysis after completing a feasibility study for the link, which may carry as much as 63 billion cubic meters of gas a year to the European Union under the Black Sea, Miller said.

“We’re talking about optimizing the route,” the company head told reporters during a visit to Bucharest. “If we’re talking about concrete routes, they will only be discussed after the study is done.”
