Putin Meets French Premier

NOVO-OGARYOVO, Moscow Region — France's prime minister said Monday that Europe needed a "grand accord" with Russia to establish a single economic space that will help countries weather the global financial crisis.

Francois Fillon said the crisis was helping to bring France and Russia closer together by forcing them to think about the future. Fillon was speaking before meeting Prime Minister Vladimir Putin at his residence near Moscow.

Putin praised French-Russian ties and said he planned to visit France in November.
