Patriarch Promotes Exercise

Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill has urged teens to start the day with a good workout, but he wouldn’t say whether he practices what he preaches.

“Load your muscles, otherwise you will have low capacity for work,” the patriarch said at a meeting with Nizhny Novgorod teens on Friday, Interfax reported Monday.

But he refused to tell the teens whether he engaged in physical exercise himself, citing “the secrets of the patriarch’s life.”

Kirill, 62, took over as the head of the Russian Orthodox Church in January.

Only 10 percent of Russian high school graduates are healthy, a senior official at the Education and Science Ministry, Alyona Levitskaya, told RIA-Novosti in February.
