Kadyrov's Lawyer Calls Rights Workers 'Miserable'

A Russian rights activist is defending himself in court against a defamation lawsuit brought by Chechnya's president.

Oleg Orlov accused Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov of involvement in the July abduction and murder of well-known rights activist Natalya Estemirova.

Kadyrov's denied the allegations and filed suit against Orlov.

Orlov told reporters outside the Moscow courthouse Friday: "There is no doubt of the political guilt of Ramzan Kadyrov in the murder of ... Estemirova."

Kadyrov did not appear at the court, but his lawyer Andrei Krasnenkov said Orlov's comments were destabilizing the situation in Chechnya.

He said: "Human rights defenders are miserable people."
