Candidate’s Signature ‘Fake’

An opposition candidate in next month’s Moscow City Elections said Thursday that his bid was at risk after election officials ruled 30 percent of the signatures that he submitted in his support, including his own, were falsified.

Solidarity member and former Deputy Energy Minister Vladimir Milov, who wrote about his registration troubles on his LiveJournal blog, has applied to run as an independent from a single-mandate district in the Oct. 11 elections.

The Moscow election committee, which refused to register four other Solidarity hopefuls over technicalities earlier this week, had no immediate comment Thursday.

A total of nine members from the opposition movement had hoped to run in the elections.
