Suspect Extradited in Frenchman’s Death

Kazakhstan has extradited to Russia an Uzbek national suspected in the death of French winemaker Thierry Spinelli and his family, the Investigative Committee said Wednesday.

Spinelli, his wife, Olga, and their 2-year-old daughter were found dead April 20 after a fire broke out in their central Moscow apartment. Investigators said a forensic examination found that the couple had been strangled and that there were signs of a burglary.

The main suspect in the case, Khurshid Normuradov, 24, was detained in Kazakhstan in May. A spokesman for the committee told Interfax on Wednesday that he had been using Olga Spinelli’s cell phone.

Normuradov worked as a handyman in an apartment above Spinellis’ and knew what their income was and when they were home, investigators said.

Spinelli’s maid also disappeared after the killings, investigators said.
