Recalled Lawmakers Travel Back for Free

State Duma Deputy Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, a senior United Russia official, said Thursday that deputies and senators from his party would not request compensation for returning from vacation for Friday’s emergency session of the Federal Assembly.

“It’s no problem for us. There were no instances of anyone planning to send a bill for payment of compensation,” Volodin said, Interfax reported.

Several tabloids reported Thursday that lawmakers might seek compensation after President Dmitry Medvedev ordered them back to Moscow for an additional session to pass a Kremlin-backed bill on allowing universities to create small enterprises to test innovations.

The Federation Council voted the bill down on Saturday, the last day before their recess, despite vocal support from Medvedev the day before.
