Chichvarkin Turns Up at London Concert

Yevgeny Chichvarkin, the Yevroset founder who has been in hiding since he fled a criminal case in Russia in December, was spotted over the weekend at gala ballet performance in London's Covent Garden, RIA-Novosti reported Monday.

Chichvarkin, 34, was recognized by reporters at the Royal Theater while attending a performance honoring the 100th anniversary of Russian Seasons, an arts festival conceived by choreographer Sergei Diaghilev.

Chichvarkin refused to comment to reporters who approached him at the theater.

"No, you understand ... no offense," he said, RIA-Novosti reported.

Moscow's Basmanny District Court issued a warrant for Chichvarkin's arrest in January on charges of kidnapping and extorting Yevroset's logistics supervisor Andrei Vlaskin in 2003.

Russia also has asked for an international arrest warrant from Interpol, which along with British authorities have confirmed that Chichvarkin has lived in London for the past few months.

Russia has been unable to extradite him.

Chichvarkin's lawyers have said the case against their client is fabricated.
