Polyus Asks Board for Interim Dividend

Polyus Gold's board asked management to consider paying an interim dividend for the first half of 2009, the company said in a statement Tuesday.

The announcement came as Mikhail Prokhorov, rated Russia's richest man by Forbes magazine, disclosed in a regulatory filing that he sold shares in Polyus for $103 million on Dec. 25.

Prokhorov sold 5.91 million Moscow-traded shares for $17.47 each in two transactions, Prokhorov said in a statement. He held 1.89 percent, or 3.6 million shares, after the deal, it said.

Polyus has gained 81 percent on the MICEX since Dec. 25 and it is also listed in London.

Prokhorov's overall holdings in Polyus were not altered by the sale, said an official at his Onexim Group investment company. The official, who declined to be identified because of company policy, did not give the size of Prokhorov's stake.
