Right Cause Registered as a Party

The Justice Ministry on Wednesday officially registered the new Kremlin-backed, pro-business party Right Cause as a political party.

The party's co-chairmen, Leonid Gozman, Boris Titov and Georgy Bovt, received the registration documents from Deputy Justice Minister Alexei Velichko, the party leaders said.

Velichko told the party's leaders that he hoped the party would "occupy a respectable place in the political system of our society," RIA-Novosti reported.

The party plans to participate in the March 1 elections in 11 regions: Moscow, Samara, Arkhangelsk, Sverdlovsk and Volgograd, as well as in Tatarstan, Right Cause said on its web site.

Right Cause, widely seen as a Kremlin attempt to round out the political spectrum with obedient parties, was created in November from three political parties: the Union of Right Forces, Civil Force and the Democratic Party.
