Yukos Lawsuit Delayed

The European Court of Human Rights said Friday that it had postponed the start of hearings into Yukos’ $100 billion lawsuit against the Russian government until Jan. 14.

The first hearing had been scheduled for Nov. 19 but was delayed to give Russia’s new judge in the European Court of Human Rights, Andrei Bushev, “more time to familiarize himself with the file,” the court said, RIA-Novosti reported.

Russia has changed its ad hoc judge on the court twice in recent months, both times delaying the start of the Yukos case. Former Yukos management is seeking $100 billion over the state’s takeover of the assets of what was once Russia’s biggest oil company.
