Russia Pushes for More Communication on Afghanistan

BRUSSELS — Dmitry Rogozin, Moscow's envoy to NATO, on Wednesday urged the United States and the military bloc to keep Russia informed about the war in Afghanistan, saying improved cooperation is essential for the mission's success.

Rogozin said Moscow wanted to know the details of President Barack Obama's new strategy in the war and was particularly interested in NATO's plans to stem opium smuggling from Afghanistan, which is fueling a sharp rise in Russian drug use.

He said it would be one of the main issues when the Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov meets colleagues from NATO states in Brussels on Dec. 4.
