Sverdlovsk lawmakers confirmed Alexander Misharin as the Urals region’s new governor Tuesday in a vote of 47 to 2, Interfax reported.
Misharin, who headed the industry and infrastructure department in the federal government, was nominated for the post by President Dmitry Medvedev last week. He replaces Eduard Rossel, one of Russia’s longest-serving regional bosses.
Misharin, who will assume the new post Monday, said after the vote that Rossel would represent the region in the Federation Council.
