Germany Backs $6.6Bln Opel Loan

BERLIN — A German government committee has given its blessings to a 4.5 billion euro ($6.6 billion) state loan guarantee to back a deal by Magna and Sberbank for General Motors’ loss-making Opel unit, Der Spiegel reported in an article to appear Monday.

The magazine said the government panel approved the Berlin-brokered deal and that there were no objections from officials from the chancellery, economy and finance ministries, or the four states involved.
