Fridman Asked to Draft Recovery Plan

President Dmitry Medvedev on Tuesday asked Alfa Group boss Mikhail Fridman to conduct a study of possible ways of bringing the country’s economy out of the crisis.

Medvedev asked Fridman, who is on the board of directors of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, or RSPP, to take a look at the situation from the point of view of “big business,” Interfax reported.

“It would be helpful for me to know how big business suggests we exit the crisis,” Medvedev said. He asked Fridman, whose interests range from banking and oil to retail and telecoms, to come up with a plan to bring the economy to a “growth stage.” Medvedev plans to meet with the RSPP “in the nearest future,” he said. Fridman promised to outline “all possible scenarios.”

In March, Medvedev invited Fridman to the Kremlin, where he warned private lenders to steer clear of “corporate selfishness” when collecting debt from major Russian industrial holdings.
