6,000 Graft Cases in Court

Prosecutors sent more than 6,000 criminal cases involving corruption to court in the first half of this year, Prosecutor General Yury Chaika said Tuesday.

Courts handed down 6,500 guilty verdicts in corruption trials over the same period, Chaika said, Interfax reported.

He said prosecutors detected nearly 174,000 instances of corruption.

Dmitry Medvedev has made the fight against corruption a hallmark of his presidency.
