Canadian Jumps Under Metro Train

A Canadian man threw himself under an approaching train in the Tsvetnoi Bulvar metro station but survived the incident, according to Dmitry Golovin, the Moscow metro's press secretary.

The man jumped into the tracks of one of the city's busiest stations at around 5:20 pm on Monday. Traffic on that platform was delayed for fifteen minutes while the victim was lifted from under the train and taken to a hospital, Golovin said.

The 35-year-old Canadian citizen sustained injuries to the skull and brain, and suffered a broken hip, Interfax reported, citing a law enforcement official.

Such incidents are not entirely uncommon in Moscow. Golovin said they occur as often as three times in a given week, although no official statistics are kept.

The Canadian Embassy has so far declined to give any comment. The victim's identity has not been revealed, and his current state of health is unknown.
