Yukos Hatchet Man an Aide to Sechin

Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin has hired as an aide the tax official who pressed claims against now-defunct oil company Yukos, Vedomosti reported Wednesday, citing Sechin, who oversees energy in Vladimir Putin's government.

Anton Ustinov will assist Sechin on developing legislation, including proposed tax cuts for oil producers, Vedomosti reported, citing an unidentified oil company official. Sechin told the newspaper that Ustinov was named to the post a while ago.

Ustinov also worked on cases against Russneft, whose billionaire founder Mikhail Gutseriyev fled the country, and Bashkir energy, Vedomosti said. Ustinov lost his job at the Federal Tax Service during a major restructuring in February, the newspaper said.

Sechin, a former deputy head of the presidential administration, remains the chairman of state-run Rosneft, which has raised output more than fivefold since 2004 after acquiring Yukos assets.
