Putin Promises Continuity to Tehran

President Vladimir Putin has told Iran's president that there will be continuity in Russia's relations with Tehran, RIA-Novosti reported.

"An oral message from Russian President Vladimir Putin was conveyed to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at a meeting," said Valentin Sobolev, acting secretary of the Security Council, RIA-Novosti reported. "The substance of it is that Russia confirms the principles of mutual relations and its policy will not depend on who is in power." Putin's successor, Dmitry Medvedev, will be sworn in as president Wednesday.

Sobolev, heading a high-level Russian delegation visiting Tehran for discussions on Iran's nuclear program, had talks with Ahmadinejad last Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a delivery of equipment for Iran's first nuclear power plant has entered Iran after it was held up in Azerbaijan on its way from Russia, an Iranian official said Friday.
