Elite Organic Offerings

MTReal Food restaurant is surprisingly casual for an eatery in a hotel.
The recently opened Real Food Restaurant in the Crowne Plaza hotel at the Moscow World Trade Center has turned out to be an unexpectedly innovative and interesting eatery.

The interior is spacious, yet cozy, with lots of light, thanks to its large widows. Traditional items such as samovars are incorporated into the contemporary design, with pastel illustrations of Moscow cityscapes inside wall panels. Lounge chairs upholstered in beige cloth are matched with similarly textured beige rugs, while vases filled with bright fruit add color. In one corner of the main hall is a large open kitchen where you can watch the chefs at work.

The menu is varied and offers some inexpensive options. For those looking for a casual bite to eat, there is a range of pizzas, including broccoli and white cheddar cheese with shredded basil (small -- 170 rubles, large -- 290 rubles), vegetarian with broccoli, balsamic marinated onions and zucchini with mushrooms (small -- 170 rubles, large -- 290 rubles), and shaved Parma ham and Kamchatka crab with a red wine tomato concasse (small --250 rubles, large -- 500 rubles).

Sandwiches are also available, including roast beef with tomato and pickles (240 rubles) and salmon tartar with cream cheese (270 rubles).

There is a range of pastas, all available in small or large servings, including chicken, sage and dried cherry cannelloni with cheese (small -- 160 rubles, large -- 290 rubles) and fresh seafood pappardelle with white fish, salmon, scallops, mussels, calamari and fresh herbs (small --240 rubles, large --550 rubles).

The menu has a large Mediterranean section, starting at 360 rubles for tiger prawns in garlic sauce. Interestingly, there is also an organic section that starts at 380 rubles for minestrone. The entire menu is rather health-orientated, however, with many of the dishes marked by a special symbol to indicate their purported healthiness, and every dish has its calories listed. Wine starts at 190 rubles a glass and draft beer begins at a rather expensive 180 rubles for a half-liter of Nevskoye.
