What to Do: Australia in Photos

Been to Australia recently? Got some great digital snaps filed away somewhere on your computer? Then hunt out the best ones and submit them to the Australian Embassy's amateur digital photography competition: AUSTRALIA. The Land Down Under.

The competition is open from Feb. 15 to March 19, and prizes include two roundtrip tickets from Moscow to Sydney on Transaero, Jacob's Creek Australian wine and vouchers for the concept store Cara&Co. It is the first photo contest to be organized by the embassy and is intended to supplement the 6th annual Australian Film Festival, which will run from April 2 to 6 at Kinoteatr Khudozhestvenny.

The competition will be judged by the ambassador and sponsors, and prizes will be awarded at the film festival's opening ceremony. Finalists' pictures will be displayed in the cinema lobby during the film festival and at the Australian Embassy.

Robert Tyson, Australia's ambassador to Russia, commented on the embassy's web site that he hoped the competition would become a regular event. "Through the contest, we hope to further promote Australia in Russia and combat misperceptions of Australia as being too distant," he said.
