Turkey Considers Nuclear Plant Bid

Turkey's Atomic Energy Board will decide by Dec. 20 on a nuclear power plant tender that saw a joint bid submitted by Atomstroiexport and Inter RAO, Turkey's Energy Minister Hilmi Guler said on Wednesday.

The board's approval is necessary before state-owned electricity firm TETAS can make the final technical decision on whether or not to move ahead with the tender.

The government is planning on completing the technical aspects of the tender before the end of the year, an Energy Ministry official said on Wednesday. After that, the decision will be left to the cabinet.

A decision on the bids from the Russian firms and Turkey's Park Teknik Group has been delayed because of requests for additional details of the consortium's plans.

"As soon as that information comes, TETAS will take the necessary steps," said the Energy Ministry official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
