U.S. Will Ease Some Visa Rules

The U.S. Embassy said Monday that it would ease the visa process for some Russians seeking to renew their visas from Nov. 10.

Russians may not have to be fingerprinted and interviewed if they reapply for a visa within 12 months of the previous visa expiring, the embassy said in a statement.

The embassy "anticipates this procedural change will ease considerably the application process for the majority of Russian applicants who wish to renew their U.S. visas," the embassy statement said.

The new visa must be for the same classification as the previous one and be applied for in the "country of usual residence." The applicant also must have abided by all U.S. immigration laws and regulations.

Even so, the embassy continues to reserve the right to require an interview after having reviewed an application.
