Jury to Decide Tuesday in Kozlov Trial

A jury is expected to decide Tuesday whether banker Alexei Frenkel ordered the 2006 killing of central banker Andrei Kozlov, Interfax reported.

Prosecutors asked the jury on Oct.14 to find Frenkel guilty. Frenkel, who has maintained his innocence, made his closing remarks to the courtroom Thursday.

The judge excused the jury from the courtroom several times while Frenkel made his closing remarks, Kommersant reported Friday.

Kozlov, whose shooting death in September 2006 sent shockwaves through the financial community, had led a campaign against money laundering and stripped hundreds of banks of their licenses. Investigators said Frenkel, whose Sodbiznesbank and VIP-Bank had their licenses revoked by Kozlov, lost billions of rubles as a result of Kozlov's actions.

Frenkel was arrested in February 2007.
