Season's Eatings

INDEPENDENT MEDIA
The world is your oyster, or at least Moscow would seem to be, given the number of oyster promotions at restaurants around town this autumn.

In Vino is cracking the season open with its promotion titled "1st Oyster Carnival," which opens at 5 p.m. on Sept. 12. The restaurant plans such activities as crowning the queen of the carnival, attempting to set the Russian record for oyster opening, waiter racing and even an "oyster parade" around the streets of Moscow. Until Sept. 20, In Vino is serving fresh oysters from around the world -- France, the Netherlands, Canada, North America, the Kuril Islands and Australia. In addition to such enticements as complimentary wine, diners who order 12 oysters are to be entered in a lottery with the chance of winning 50, 100 or 200 oysters to be eaten over the course of a year.

Sirena also has an oyster festival, running from Sept. 20 to Oct. 20. Its selection of fresh French oysters is to be considerably expanded and, for those looking for more, there will be a large selection of oyster dishes such as oyster soup, oysters fried with spinach and oyster risotto.

Calvados is also joining in with its own oyster festival, featuring, among other oysters, the award-winning Marenne d'Oleron.
