Season's Eatings

Special mushroom promotions are springing up around town like ... mushrooms. For those who can't tell their porcini from their portabella, these specials provide a chance to sample new mushrooms that can't be had any other time of year.

For mushrooms with movies, Porto Chervo, the Italian eatery in the Oktyabr cinema complex, has a special chanterelle menu until the end of September. These little, yellow, tasty trumpets are offered in various ways, including fashionable salad of ruccola under a basilic sauce with cherry tomatoes and chanterelles (180 rubles), fried potatoes with chanterelles and fresh herbs (150 rubles) and tagliatelle with chanterelles, olive oil and basil (220 rubles).

Further afield, Limoncino is also featuring chanterelles. Besides old favorites, such as potatoes with fried chanterelles (449 rubles) and tagliolini with chanterelles under a sage sauce (449 rubles), Limoncino is also serving beef medallions with chanterelles and baked vegetables (859 rubles) plus soups and pizzas with the fungi.

Offering a bit more variety, the ANT-25 restaurant, atop the Holiday Inn Moscow Sokolniki hotel, is holding a "mushroom feast" until the end of September. The dishes include lamb tongue with porcini terrine (320 rubles), salad with fried chanterelles, croutons and Parmesan (320 rubles) and tagliatelle with veal and porcini sauce (680 rubles).
