Ethnic Russian Killed in Ingushetia

An ethnic Russian woman was shot dead Friday in Ingushetia, amplifying fears that Russians are being targeted in an effort by insurgents to destabilize the republic.

Natalya Mudarova, the director of a blood-transfusion center at a hospital, was fatally shot near her home in Ingushetia's main city, Nazran city prosecutors said. Her assailants opened fire with automatic rifles from a car that then sped away from the scene.

Seven ethnic Russians have been killed in three separate attacks this summer in Ingushetia.

Late Saturday, gunmen armed with automatic weapons and grenade launchers attacked troops at a base in the town of Malgobek. One serviceman and two attackers were killed.

In Chechnya, authorities said a prominent rebel, Musa Mutiyev, was killed in Grozny late Saturday.
