Drug Squad Officer Has Heroin Bag Stolen

Unidentified assailants mugged a female drug police officer and stole a plastic bag containing 152 grams of heroin and 0.86 grams of amphetamines, Interfax reported.

The officer, who works for the Federal Drug Control Service branch in Moscow's Northern Administrative District, was walking along Ulitsa Lizy Chaikinoi, near the Aeroport metro station, on Friday morning when the attackers hit her over the head and snatched the bag, a city police source told Interfax.

The bag also contained the woman's cell phone, the source said.

It was not until Friday afternoon that she notified police, the source told Interfax. She testified that the drugs in the bag were evidence in two criminal cases under investigation by her squad, the source said.

She estimated the value of the illegal substances and the cell phone at 10,300 rubles ($400), although the heroin has a street value of $30,000, Interfax cited the source as saying.

Police are trying to establish whether the mugging was a random street crime or a planned attack.

"It is highly probable that the assailants had information the woman was carrying such a large shipment of drugs in the bag," the source said.
