Bin Laden Threatens Musharraf

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden has vowed in a new tape to retaliate against Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf for the killing of a rebel cleric and a raid on his mosque in July, a U.S. web site said Thursday.

"We in al-Qaida organization call on God to witness that we will retaliate for the blood of ... Abdul Rashid Ghazi and those with him against Musharraf and those who help him, and for all the pure and innocent blood," quoted bin Laden as saying in English excerpts of his comments.

It did not post the full version of the tape.

"So Pervez, his ministers, his soldiers and those who help him are all accomplices in spilling the blood of those of the Muslims who have been killed. He who helps him knowingly and willingly is an infidel like him," bin Laden was quoted as saying on another U.S. web site,

The authenticity of the messages could not immediately be verified, but an al-Qaida-linked web site had earlier said that bin Laden was expected to appear in a new tape and declare war on Musharraf and the Pakistani army.

The message from al-Qaida's media arm, As-Sahab, plays the voice of the Saudi-born militant over a video montage of him, the site said. Earlier in the day, As-Sahab issued a compilation that included comments by senior al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahri mixed with older footage of bin Laden..
