Jan Chovanec was appointed as new general manager of Swissotel Krasnye Holmy Moscow.

In his new position in Moscow, Jan Chovanec succeeded Ian Jones, who has been named general manager of Swissotel Grand, Shanghai.

Chovanec, who has more than 20 years of senior management experience, is rejoining Swissotel Hotels & Resorts from CONRAD Hotels, where he was recently the general manager of CONRAD Indianapolis. From 2002 to 2005, Chovanec was general manager of Swissotel The Bosphorus, Istanbul. From October 2000 to June 2002, Chovanec was general manager of the Swissotel The Watergate in Washington. From May 1998, he held similar responsibilities at the Swissotel Chicago, which he joined from Swissotel Boston, where he spent three years as General Manager.

Chovanec, a U.S. national, began his professional career within the Food & Beverage sector in Czechoslovakia, then moved to Austria and finally returned to the United States as general manager of the American Hospitality Company in New York in 1981, the Lafayette Swissotel Boston in 1985 and The Ritz Carlton Boston. In 1993, he established the Dunhill Management and Consulting Group to advise hotel owners and investors.

Chovanec holds an MBA from the University of Economics in Bratislava, Slovakia, with a major in Tourism and Hotel Management. Chovanec was previously president of the Executive Committee of the Istanbul Convention and Visitor Bureau. He also holds memberships with the Istanbul Hotel Association, the Chaine des Rotisseurs, SKAL and the American Society of Quality Control.
