Zyuganov Calls Theft 'Intimidation'

The son of Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov had his apartment robbed in what the senior Zyuganov called an "act of intimidation," Interfax reported Friday.

Andrei Zyuganov told police Thursday night that 60,000 rubles ($2,300) was stolen from his apartment near the Studencheskaya metro station in western Moscow, city police told Interfax.

The burglar or burglars apparently entered the apartment by picking the lock sometime before the morning of Aug. 2, when the money was discovered missing, police said.

The Communist Party web site gave a smaller figure of 15,000 rubles ($590) Friday for the amount stolen.

"I am convinced that this so-called robbery was carried out to intimidate me ahead of parliamentary elections," Gennady Zyuganov told Interfax.
