OSCE Not Taking Sides on Missile

Europe's security watchdog will not take sides in a missile dispute between Russia and Georgia, a spokesman for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe said Thursday.

Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, who holds the rotating OSCE chairmanship, met his Russian counterpart to try to calm the dispute, sparked when Georgia accused an Air Force jet of dropping a missile on its territory.

Moratinos will visit Tbilisi early next week, and an OSCE report on the issue is under way.

"The report is not going to point the finger at one side or the other," OSCE spokesman Martin Nesirky said after talks between Moratinos and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The spat was not mentioned during a brief press conference Moratinos and Lavrov gave after the talks.
