Unidentified assailants fired shots at the Moscow region office of State Duma deputy and former Agriculture Minister Viktor Semyonov, news agencies reported Thursday.

The incident took place at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the headquarters of Belaya Dacha, a company owned by Semyonov, Interfax reported Thursday, citing an unidentified Moscow region law enforcement official.

Two shots were fired at the windows of Semyonov's office, but he was not in the room at the time and nobody was harmed in the incident, the official said.

A bullet hole was found in Semyonov's chair, said his press secretary, Margarita Popova, Itar-Tass reported.

"The bodyguards heard popping sounds and ran outside, but there was already nobody there," she said. "There is a road that runs right by the building."

Semyonov represents the United Russia party in the Duma. He served as agriculture minister from 1998 to 1999.

Belaya Dacha is a major agricultural producer in the Moscow region, focusing mostly on fruits and vegetables. It is also a major real estate developer, based in the Lyubertsy district, southwest of Moscow.
