Donskoi Back Under Arrest

The Arkhangelsk Regional Court ordered Arkhangelsk Mayor Alexander Donskoi back under arrest on Tuesday, Interfax reported.

The court overturned last week's ruling by the Oktyabrsky District Court in Arkhangelsk to release Donskoi .

He was arrested last week and charged with abuse of office, on allegations of embezzlement to pay for bodyguards for himself and his family. Donskoi says he is innocent. (MT)

Diplomats Coming Home

Four diplomats and their families return to Russia early next week after being expelled by Britain over Russia's refusal to hand over murder suspect Andrei Lugovoi, Interfax reported Tuesday.

Britain announced earlier this month that it was expelling four diplomats because of Russia's refusal to extradite Lugovoi, who is facing British murder charges for the death Alexander Litvinenko in London last year. (MT)

SPS Won't Field a Candidate

The Union of Right Forces, or SPS, will not field its own candidate for presidential elections in March, party leader Nikita Belykh told Vedomosti on Tuesday.

The party will support a unity opposition candidate instead, Belykh said.

The party will focus its energies on the State Duma elections, which are to be held in December, Belykh told the newspaper. (MT)
